Nikki Kyle's 'Icarus' EP Is the Deep-House Discovery of the Week
Los Angeles producer, DJ and radio host Nikki Kyle released her 'Icarus' EP on November 6, 2026, via London label Manual Smiles. Six tracks of deep house with an acid streak — and one of the week's best introductions to a new name.
What it is
- 'Icarus' EP, released November 6, 2026 on Manual Smiles.
- Six tracks: '(Don't Waste) A Good Thing', 'Circumsolar', 'Icarus', 'Is He In Love', plus two remixes — '(Don't Waste) A Good Thing' (Akumen Remix) and 'Circumsolar' (Panooc Remix).
- Follows Kyle's debut, self-released 'Pieced Together' EP from last year.
- Already supported by Jorkes, Saoirse, Chris Cruse and Massimiliano Pagliara.
The sound
- '(Don't Waste) A Good Thing' opens the EP: deep house with spacey synth textures, acid and a hushed vocal.
- 'Circumsolar' is progressive and bouncy, with the same acid squelch; the title track 'Icarus' pushes the energy further.
- 'Is He In Love' closes on a mellow, sweet note.
- Akumen — a fellow Angeleno who co-runs the Made to Move party — turns the opener from downtempo into a dance track, chopping its vocal over a muscular groove. Panooc reworks 'Circumsolar' with synths and stabs for a playful, video-game-like sound.
Why it matters for discovery
The EP is a two-for-one discovery: a new artist and a label to watch. Manual Smiles was founded in 2023 by Belgian-born DJ Manual Smiles (formerly n_o) and has become a home for tripped-out cuts across the underground spectrum, with artists including Azo, REES, Nickon Faith, Kalani and Kajsa Villius, and takeovers at The Cause, The Carpet Shop and Queen's Yard. Kyle is the label's latest find — and the support list suggests the wider scene is already listening.
