Skrillex
About
Skrillex is the stage name of Sonny John Moore, an American DJ and producer born January 15, 1988, in Los Angeles. He first gained notice as the lead vocalist of post-hardcore band From First to Last, recording their first two albums before leaving in 2007 to pursue solo electronic music. He began releasing as Skrillex in 2010 and went on to become one of the most influential figures in American dubstep, co-founding the label OWSLA in 2011. He is ranked #31 in the DJ Mag Top 100.
Signature sound
Aggressive, sharply cut bass music that pulled dubstep into the American mainstream. Early Skrillex meant distorted bass drops, chopped vocal samples, and electro house energy. Later work ranges wider, from UK garage and Chicago juke to pop production for artists like Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, and Beyonce.
